Kingdom Release & Budget Details

Release Date: 31 July 2025
Languages: Telugu (Dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada)
Genre: Spy Thriller
Runtime: Approx. 2 hours 30 minutes

Budget Breakdown:

Kingdom (Samrajya) could not recover its entire budget from theatrical collections, as the worldwide gross stopped at around ₹82.5 crore against a budget of ₹130 crore. However, through non-theatrical avenues such as OTT streaming, satellite television rights, and music rights, the film would already have covered its deficit, ensuring that the producers achieved overall recovery despite the weak box office run.

Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, Bhagyashri Borse, and Satyadev Kancharana, opened strong at the box office, receiving positive reviews for its gripping narrative and high-octane action. Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film follows an elite undercover agent navigating a dangerous mission filled with betrayal, intelligence warfare, and emotional stakes. With its pan-India appeal and cinematic scale, Kingdom is emerging as a top-performing action thriller of the year.

Opening and Early Days – The film opened with a powerful Day 1 collection of ₹18 crore net in India, showcasing Vijay Deverakonda’s pull at the ticket counters. However, the sharp fall on Day 2 — down to ₹7.5 crore — immediately signaled trouble. While Day 3 saw a slight recovery with ₹8 crore, the weekend closed at around ₹40.9 crore. By Day 4, collections dropped again to ₹7.4 crore, and from Day 5 onwards the fall became steeper: ₹2 crore on Monday, ₹1.54 crore on Tuesday, and just ₹1.29 crore on Wednesday. This rapid decline showed that the film was unable to sustain momentum beyond the initial curiosity.

Second Week Performance – The second weekend gave the film a temporary push. Day 8 earned ₹1.25 crore, Day 9 slipped to ₹1 crore, but Day 10 rebounded to ₹1.5 crore, and Day 11 touched ₹1.9 crore, helping the film cross the ₹50 crore domestic mark. However, this surge was short-lived. The weekdays once again hit the film hard: Day 12 managed only ₹0.50 crore, Day 13 fell further to ₹0.28 crore, and Day 14 added a meagre ₹0.23 crore. By the end of two weeks, the India net total stood at around ₹51.9 crore.

Overseas and Worldwide Totals – Overseas markets contributed approximately ₹21.25 crore gross, which brought the worldwide gross to nearly ₹82.5 crore. For a film that cost ₹130 crore to produce, these figures highlighted a massive shortfall — recovering only around 40% of its investment. In box office terms, Kingdom (Samrajya) was classified as a flop.

Reasons Behind the Underperformance – The opening day indicated a solid fan base, but negative word-of-mouth and mixed reviews caused steep drops from Day 2 onwards. At ₹130 crore, the film required blockbuster-level collections to break even, but it faced stiff competition and also suffered from piracy leaks soon after release.

Aftermath and Future – Despite the financial setback, Vijay Deverakonda confirmed that work on a sequel to Kingdom is already in planning, promising more intensity and international-scale action. Additionally, the film is scheduled for a Netflix digital release, where it may find a second life with audiences who missed it in cinemas.

Final Verdict – Kingdom (Samrajya) is a textbook example of a film that began with promise but faltered due to unsustainable drops and high production costs. While it crossed ₹50 crore domestically and earned over ₹80 crore worldwide, its budget expectations made those numbers insufficient. For Vijay Deverakonda, the film marks both a lesson and a stepping stone — showing the dangers of inflated budgets but also reaffirming his star power, as the strong Day 1 opening proves his audience pull remains intact.
