Sachet–Parampara plan to sue over ‘Raanjhan’ plagiarism claims
Music duo Sachet–Parampara deny plagiarism allegations over Raanjhan from Do Patti and announce plans to sue, calling the claims baseless and harmful.
Composer duo Sachet–Parampara, widely known for their work on hit tracks like Bekhayali and Mehabooba, have found themselves in the middle of a controversy. Their new song Raanjhan, featured in the Kriti Sanon and Kajol starrer Do Patti, has been accused of plagiarism by a section of listeners and online critics. The allegation claims that the melody resembles an independent track released a few years ago.
Responding swiftly, the duo held a press interaction where they denied the charges in strong terms. Sachet stated, “The composition is entirely our own, created from scratch in collaboration with our lyricists and producers. Any resemblance is purely coincidental.” Parampara added that all required verifications had been conducted through music platforms and legal teams before release.
The composers further announced that they are preparing to file a defamation suit against those spreading the allegations, particularly targeting social media handles that accused them without evidence. “We’ve worked too hard to let baseless claims tarnish our credibility,” Parampara remarked, visibly upset by the storm.
The controversy has divided audiences. Some netizens support Sachet–Parampara, pointing to their long track record of delivering original chartbusters. Others, however, continue to share side-by-side comparisons of the two songs online, fueling the debate. The situation highlights the increasing challenges that composers face in the digital age, where global access to music makes coincidences more visible and plagiarism accusations more frequent.
Industry insiders also argue that the pressure on Bollywood music to deliver “instant hits” has created an environment where any new track is scrutinized heavily. While plagiarism in the past often went unnoticed or unchallenged, today’s audiences are quick to raise red flags.
For Do Patti, the film at the center of the storm, the controversy has ironically boosted the song’s visibility. Raanjhan is trending on streaming platforms and video apps, ensuring it reaches even more ears than it might have otherwise. Whether this will translate into long-term success or backlash remains to be seen.
For now, Sachet–Parampara appear determined to protect their reputation. Their aggressive stance signals that Bollywood musicians are no longer willing to silently accept online rumors, and are ready to use legal tools to defend their artistry.
